Best Mini-ITX Cases 2023: Space-Saving PC Builds

The 6.7 × 6.7-inch Mini-ITX motherboard form factor has been around for decades now. And while many other types of tech have continued to shrink, most people are still building PCs in bulky towers with full-size ATX motherboards. That really isn’t necessary anymore for most gamers and system builders, unless perhaps you’re assembling a high-performance rig with a huge, heat-generating RTX 4090 and/or an overclocked flagship CPU.

High-power-draw GPUs like Nvidia’s RTX 4090 and Intel’s Core i9-13900K CPU are certainly going to tax compact case designers going forward. But as process nodes shrink and related tech gets smaller, the popularity of ITX systems and cases will likely increase.

The days of multi-GPU SLI or CrossFire gaming rigs are long gone for gamers. And Ethernet, Wi-Fi and high-end audio are now built into most motherboards — unless you’re shopping on a tight budget. Four and eight-terabyte M.2 SSDs are the size of a finger, minimizing the need for SATA hard drives and SSDs, and cloud services and external NAS devices take care of most mass storage. Most PC builders just don’t need a large ATX system these days, especially with so many great Mini-ITX motherboards currently on the market.
