A new site design is in the works for my church. First mockup is out and would like to get your guys opinions on it. Jacob Abshire is the man behind it on this.
We are going to go with wordpress on this.
At the top of it, there are three small boxes (to the left) and one big box (to the right). Don't get so caught up with what is inside the boxes - we will change those once we start building the site. The three on the left will rotate each time the page is refreshed. We can have a graphic for each study (ex: Biblical Greek, 2 Peter, Revelation, James, etc.). The big box will be a slide show (either sliding in new slides or fading to new slides). Each slide will highlight the current or most important items of the website. For example, if the Biblical Greek materials were going on sale. We would make it a big advertisement and put it there. We can have about 5 different slides that change on the page every few seconds.
Below the these boxes are three more boxes that are less graphical. These are simply some sidebar items to direct people to other stuff on the website. If you are using MailChimp or MadMimi (what I use) then we can set up a mailing list for the users. Then, on the far right is a section guiding people to a page full of Twitter, FaceBook, Mac Widget, Podcast on iTunes and whatever else. If not a page, we can put all of these icons in this little box and link people from there.
Thus, the top navigation would require Studies, Q&A, Topics (linking to category tags maybe), Store, and About. Plus, there is the handy search box.
I can't think of a thing critical to say about it. That's unusual for me. :-) If it was live, I'd almost surely find something, getting into accessibility if I had too!
