Hi David. Where are you seeing this? I don't see what your referring to. Have a screenshot you can take?

It is in the top right corner and looks like this:

One problem is that the text that appears when hovering over the feed icons appears below the text where it says "New User Profiles":

I'm using Firefox.

A couple things to try. Try logging out and then back in again. If that doesn't work try re-uploading your profile image or uploading another one and see if that solves it.
If not we'll see if Matt or Bob can take a look at it.

You'll see this message until certain fields are filled in. We aren't telling anyone which fields those are. One of them must be empty. Have you filled in the location info yet?

What version of Firefox on what operating system are you using? I would like to troubleshoot the popups.

I was able to get the block to disappear.
I'm using Firefox 3.0.4 on the Mac.
