WordPress Newbie Questions

Hello guys, I'm a WordPress Newbie but I'm setting up a ministry site where i think it will work nicely. The thing is the site is mostly static but with a blog (latest news) page. I've figured out:
* How to make a static page
* How to make another page your home instead of the blog.

Here's what I'm looking for. I am looking for a 2 column layout for the home page where the left is static home page copy and the right column is a lead in to the blog...with the first 15 or 20 words then a link to the blog page. Is there something to make that easily doable?

Thanks!

Custom Theme/Page Template

Chris--

It sounds like that is a job for a custom page template or a custom theme depending on how much you are wanting this to apply to.

Jack's right. Sounds like

Jack's right. Sounds like you'll either need to customize your template or find one you can use. Check out www.woothemes.com they have some great ones. Some are free, some you pay for. If you don't want to pay for one, at least you can get some ideas from their templates.

first - here is another link for a theme collection:

To get your last posts into sidebar - use the default widget in wp2.7 (it's called something like "last article".
If you are looking for a little bit more - some links for you:
