Desperately seeking help on placing a News module

I'm desperately trying to figure out how to place a list of news items on the Home Page to provoke people to go and read the news updates. We've had a couple of events go by without people outside of the church being aware of them because they've not thought to check out the relevant section. I had it placed ok in J1.0, but since upgrading to 1.5 it just won't put the info where I need it.

I should say tho that it wasn't me who did the coding for it before but another guy who's equally stumped on how to write the code for it this time around.

If someone here with 1.5 knowledge of this could assist, I'd be truly grateful.

To clarify I basically want the news module to place x number of current news items in a short list just above the info on the Home Page.

Church website is at www.bloomfieldmethodist.org.uk

Truly appreciate ANY input on this one, as I'm getting a bit of flak from my minister to try and fix it ASAP.

A quick fix...

Ok well first thing just to give the minister a smile is try adding your Latest News Module on the left side bar.

It is easy. simply go to your modules and search for your Latest News Module.
Simply select it to be palced on the left side bar and you can select the number of stories to display..

Next after that is set let the minister know it is in place as a quick fix.

Next is go to your templates select the template you are using and go to the preview window that displays your modules. You are looking to see if you even have a module in place where you would like the Latest News to appear. if so then just look for it and select that module. in most cases a top module will be listed as Top, or even User 1 or User 2 it really depends on the template and how it was created.

If you have nothing in place let me know I might be able to help out a bit more. also if you can post a screen shot of what that module page looks like somethign simialr to this would be nice.

I hope this helps out a bit.

Appreciated

Just wrote a whole lot and lost it!! Anyways was really just thanking you for that truly helpful info and advice.

On the mod placement - I can manage that ok, but it keeps coming up with this error when I do (forgot to say that before):

Warning: file_put_contents() The 2nd parameter should be either a string or an array in /home/bloomfie/public_html/libraries/joomla/utilities/compat/php50x.php on line 47

Unsure if I can just reupload that file or if that would make matters worse? I'm great at the old fixing things until they're broke!!

On the Module placement in the template - there's nothing in the place I want to use (we'd used one of the advert positions before which I think does work, but again I get that above error). To be honest, I've a funny feeling the error msg is actually the only thing preventing placement where I want it :)

Sort of sorted

Ok - don't panic on that error msg too much as it appears to be connected in some way to that particular module - I've just set up a different one which is working ok in the left position (aside from some formatting issues). So just need to figure out how to get the results above the content portion in the centre preferably now :) - oh and in a nice little list without spaces between them (not looking for too much am I LOL). Did you spot I'm female :)))
