New Site

Hey everyone,
I'm working on a site for a national organisation of boys club throughout our denomination's churches. It is made up of many clubs and the site will be a place to get information and news.
Got a couple of questions I hoped someone could give me some ideas on:
I want to have a page per club. Any help on the best way to do these things would be very... helpful!
The club pages will be laid out almost like an organic groups page. At the top would be general information of the club, followed by reguarly updated news nodes. How can I achieve this?

Also, with permsissions, i'd like the leader of each club to only be able to update information about their club, and add news also only for their club. how would this be achieved?

Thanks!

Paul

Also...

Sorry, this thread is from me, I forgot to sign in.
Also, this seems like a simple question - however...
I'll be uploading resources with a hierarchy taxonomy. How is the best way to display the terms as links ( like a directory format)?

OG

Why not use OG for this?

OG with Panels

Indeed, this sounds like a job for OG, maybe with Panels. Check out this Drupal Dojo video on doing group home pages with Panels:

OG

I was thinking OG, however, I don't want the whole "mebership/subscriber" thing. Is there a way I can just assign a user to a group or something similar?

Assigning Members to OG Groups

The best way to do this would probably be to set the group to be closed, so that only group managers and admins can add users to groups. Also, don't list them on the registration page.

Users can then be added on the /og/users/$nid/add_user page.

From the group list on /og, click the number of subscribers for each group to get to the member list. Navigation isn't the best here, and I drilled down the hard way to find it the first time this morning, before remembering the easier route.

If you've dabbled with OG before, you'll definitely want to bump up to the current 5.x-7.2 version. There have been several recent changes that make administration much more intuitive.

new and confusing

I've updated to the new versions of OG and panels and am quite confused yet intrigued by the new og_panels module. Can any one help me out on how to use this? It seems to allow me to have " recent images" column and "recent posts" columns etc, but I cant get it working.

OG Panels Video

Paul,

Watch this video from the Drupal dojo. This link goes to groups.drupal.org, and the video is linked from there. It covers stuff pretty well, but I thought they left out a few details about building the views needed. When I figured out how to make it work, I added a comment on the g.d.o page that explains how to do it.

Thank You

Thank you everyone for your help so far. I have tried your suggestions with limited success. I have however warmed to the idea of using groups, especially with the new og_panels module.
Let me give you a run down of exactly what i'm trying to achieve, and if anyone could give me a step-by-step on how to go about it, it'd be excellent!

1. A group per club, with a user assigned to each group by the administrator who can add content.
2. Each group would use the same panels layout (Blueprint module?) the layout should not be editable by the group admins.
3.The layout would consist of:
a) a region desplaying the group desription, and perhaps other CCK fields of the group node (eg: place, time of meeting)
b) a column displaying latest news teaser
c) a column displaying latest photos
4. The groups would be listed and linked to in a block, and the maybe the groups could be groups heirachially -EG: state by state

Thats basically what I want to acheive. I'm having troubles specifically getting the panels to actually display - i folow the instructions and cannot get the news teasers to work.

Any help would very much be appreciated

Refinement

Hello everyone,
I've been mucking around with it, and have worked out alot of problems. However, just a few refined questions I was hoping for some help on.
1. How to create a page that is automatically applied to each new group created?
2. At the moment, my page title seems to have been wrecked. It is displaying "Image-" instead of the title "Home". I think something in the panels has mucked it up as i have a panel displaying recent images.

Custom solution

I can't really speak about panels since I don't use it.

What do you mean about a page applied to each new group? This sounds like a custom solution but I need more details on what you envision.

Pages

With Og panels, you can go to a group and create a new 'page' which consists of panels. I would like one of these custom pages to be automaticlly created as the layout for each new group, instead of it having to be created individually each time

Custom solution

There may be an easier way to do this but, the first way that comes to my mind is a custom solution where an action is used to detect the creation of the group and then the page is programatically created. This means you'd need some custom code.

OG Blueprints

The OG Blueprints module seems to be what's needed, however im not sure how to use it.
Also, I'm trying to use the "rounded Corners" style of the OG Panels. However, strange things are a'happenin'.
I have the style applied, however, even though the css is there, the background image does not seem to be applied. Cant work this one out. If anyone can have a look at http://www.cadets.crca.org.au/... and try and work out what is happening, that would be very helpful! As I said - i cant figure out whats happening
