firstbaptistchurchsh.com Critique Requested

I am a drupal-in-diapers newbie.

I have cobbled together http://firstbaptistchurchsh.co... using some Drupal and a lot of manually coded HTML.

Does it load reasonably fast and display cleanly?

What three changes would you make?

Thanks!

Good Start

Your church's Drupal site is a good start. The load up time is good but I am using a 3 mbps contention. So I went to WebSiteOptimization.com.

The website said at 56K it loads up at 450.11 seconds that is about 7 minute and 50 seconds. We all must rememberer that some part of the world dose not have high speed internet. Even some part of the US only have dial up, so keep it in mind.

Also make sure all of images web ready.

Two more comments put informational content before the fold, like the full church name, address phone number, worship time(s) ect.... Also your title should be the full name of your church not a abbreviated or nick names because Google or other search engine uses your title and the first couple of sentences for indexing.

I hope this information helps you.

May God's peace be with you.

Remember to live your life with a purpose with God in mind.

The first thing I would

The first thing I would change is the long scrolling. You should probably break up your front page content.

Pages load up speed is just fine.

Good job

Hey edoc, good start. I

Hey edoc, good start.

I agree with the others about the long scrolling and breaking up the front page.

I think that the navigation needs to be somewhere in the readers view when the page first loads instead of at the very bottom like it is now.

I am just now drinking the Drupal Kool Aid, so I'm glad that I'll have others to share the experience with.

Looking forward to seeing your church's website progression!

A couple thoughts

Here are a couple thoughts to get you rolling...

1) Have a main navigation menu in the top 1/4 of the screen (not the page but the visible screen).

2) Left justify content including titles. This is for text readability.

3) Have your logo in the top 1/4 of the screen near your main nav.

4) Break the page up so it's not just a river of information.

I'd also take a look at the sites you live visiting and are visually nice to you. Start noticing what makes them look good. Then you can start adding that to this site.

Scale your images

I noticed all of your images are bigger than what is shown on the web site. This can have two problems. The first is speed. Smaller images load faster--especially for your users with slow Internet connections. The second is that I've noticed my browser doesn't always do a good job of scaling images. Sometimes over-sized images look bad when the browser scales them down.

Ideally, you should decide how big you want your images to appear on your site and use and scale them to that size before uploading them.
